Mercury in Taurus: Slow And Steady Wins The Race

Last week I wrote you a horoscope about the New Moon in Taurus, and the drama brought about by it being smack-dab on top of a conflict between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus.

We talked about the stressful tension between authority and rebellion that’s being echoed in the cosmos, and how this tension may be showing up in your life. 

As of Monday afternoon (here in the USA), the planet Mercury has joined the party by entering Taurus, and is now following the same bumpy path the Sun just trekked through a few days ago. 

Mercury travels faster than the Sun, and will follow in its footsteps quickly. 

(Astro Fact:  Every time Mercury passes the Sun, it means Mercury will soon go retrograde in about 6 weeks.  This year, Mercury goes Retrograde on June 14th. The day the Sun and Mercury meet is called a “combustion”. We’ll talk more about that in just a moment. 🤓)

Mercury in Taurus:  Slow And Steady Wins The Race

Mercury entered Taurus on Monday the 27th around 3:30 pm EST. This will influence the way we think and communicate. 

Mercury in Taurus is very different from its previous sign, Aries. In Aries, Mercury has a white hot tongue, and friction is the root of almost every interaction. Communication is fierce, engaging, and direct (if not volatile). 

Taurus, on the other hand, takes on Mercury energy in a completely different way. 

In Taurus, Mercury slows and steadies our thoughts. Taurus is a grounded and practical Earth sign, allowing us to pave the way for turning big ideas into reality. Practicality is the nature of Taurus.  The basic elements of life – eating, sleeping, making love – all come into the forefront when Mercury strolls through Taurus. 

This is not a time for wishful thinking, or fly by night ideas. Mercury in Taurus focuses on what is concrete and stable. This time period promotes building strong foundations through consistency and perseverance. 

Now is a time for sticking to the tried and true, instead of experimenting. Use your common sense and let your gut lead your way to what is practical and real. Taurus is a fixed sign, and while all other fixed signs (Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) are stubborn … Taurus is literally the Bull, and holds the title of the most stubborn sign in the zodiac. 

We may find ourselves taking very stern positions on things while Mercury is in Taurus. It’s important that we remember other people have opinions too, that are just as valid as ours. Our greatest gift is to listen and be flexible as much as we can during this time. We have much to learn. Our focus is becoming clear and our plans are becoming final. 

Mercury in Taurus is a great time to call in the support you need to create success out of your situation. Keep your eye on the prize now and enjoy this calming, purpose driven energy while it lasts.

This year there are a few bumps in the road, right as mercury enters Taurus. These are in fact the same bumps we’ve just experienced, involving our two angry uncles in the sky – Saturn and Uranus. 

Monday April 27th | Mercury Enters Taurus |  Don’t Shoot The Messenger

As I mentioned in my last forecast, Saturn just entered Aquarius in March and is currently sitting right at Aquarius’ first degree.

The fiery skies shift into a grounded and earthy tone. Mercury immediately gets entangled with the Saturn square Uranus conflict. 

Tuesday April 28th | Mercury squares Saturn in Taurus

Communication grinds to a halt. Tension surrounding the same issue you’ve been dealing with since last week has come to a boil. There are unexpected delays. 

You might get news from this messenger, who tries to bridge the communication gaps in your current circumstances, and help resolve things. Pay attention to who approaches you with new solutions. They may be just what you need, even if their news doesn’t seem great, or their timing gets delayed. 

Thursday April 30th:  Mercury conjoins Uranus in Taurus 

Surprising insights fill the air as new twists in the plot unfold. You may discover new information that startles you, yet moves you towards a path of peaceful resolution.  Brilliant ideas are fleeting now, so take notes on what pops into your mind. 

Be careful of provoking or reacting in irritation on or around Thursday, as everyone may appear to be on edge. Ground yourself yet be open for new and inventive thinking, even if you think you have the way figured out. If you receive upsetting news, take a step back and reevaluate what you are getting out of, but also what you are willing to give in your situation. Sometimes harmony is easier to reach than you are willing to believe. 

Monday May 4th:  Mercury conjoins Sun 

On this day, Mercury will finally catch up with the Sun and share the same astrological degree in Taurus. When this happens, it’s considered the “combustion” of Mercury – meaning little old Mercury is nearly invisible due to being engulfed by the massive size of the Sun. 

Traditionally, this is not a good day for negotiations, legal, or business transactions. Things may become simple and clear, yet details are bound to be missed. Ego expression will be exceptionally high so be careful of how you handle authority. People will be easily triggered, especially those in charge. 

This day will likely bring about a resolution for your circumstances, or at least make your next steps clear.

Shortly after, on May 11th, Saturn will go retrograde until the end of September, giving us a reprieve from his authoritarian tone, and a chance to reevaluate the strength of our life’s structures in the meantime. (Stay tuned for a special forecast when that time comes.)

For now, look over the dates I mentioned and think back to your current situation, to see how these energies may apply. When you understand the patterns in your own life, and put the  cosmic patterns to use, astrology becomes a powerful tool in your arsenal.
